Boat Deck Thickness
Im spending far too much time pondering over what thickness marine ply i should be using for the floor. my boat is a 20 foot fibreglass runabout with 4 stringers. my main concern is that the distance between the 2 centre stingers (which form the fuel tank locker) is about 20 inches.. Re: pontoon deck thickness ya, the wood on the deck is a major structural part of the boat,i don't think 1/2'' woould hold up for long and i am sure you don't want to do this again any time soon. 3/4'' is the norm.. Most pontoons are .080 on the tubes, so .090 is a little more than average thickness. (the nose cones are usually thicker.) it depends if you beach your boat regularly. i personally don't ever beach my boat, or hit bottom on my deep lake. i'd rather put $500 toward a set of factory installed strakes or put aluminum sheeting under the boat.. I'm planning on starting my decking and flooring project on my tracker 1542 next weekend, the only thing i haven't decided on is what thickness i need for the aluminum flooring and the decking. i'm building a deck from the mid bench to the front bench, and then a deck on the back bench..
