Boat Deck Plywood
Feb 13, 2018 . boat building. in some ways it would make most sense for the plywood suitable for boat building to be the only plywood with a marine grade label. . the plywood is either expected to be a show face or at least a consistent face that can operate as a reliable surface for a decking veneer or fiberglass overlay. I will fasten the pieces of plywood down with ss screws and finish washers. i have never fiberglassed a boat deck before, this is not yacht quality finish, i will paint the deck when done to give the boat the traditional workboat look. the boat is used as a pleasure boat so the deck wont be getting heavy use.. Replacing the deck on my pontoon and this is absolutely crazy....marine plywood is going to cost me over $500-600...then carpet and glue are going to be somewhere around $400..
Re: replacing the plywood decking on my boat i went a different direction and used 2 layers of 5mm extierer luan soaked with 3 coats of epoxy on the bottom and overlaped the seems. i had added a fg grid between my stringers so i had good support for the thin deck.. At the time i was broke so went for 3/4 inch primed/painted plywood deck; i raised the deck using a pressure treated "stringer" system underneath (not touching actual aluminum hull or parts, understand that is bad). this allowed accommodating a fuel tank and batteries underneath.. I did one with good old exterior plywood. after i cut it all out i used a paint roller to coat it with fiberglass resin, i sold it after 12 years and it was still fine. might be an option for you..
